Recurrence time statistics for finite size intervals.
We investigate the statistics of recurrences to finite size intervals for chaotic dynamical systems. We find that the typical distribution presents an exponential decay for almost all recurrence times except for a few short times affected by a kind of memory effect. We interpret this effect as being related to the unstable periodic orbits inside the interval. Although it is restricted to a few ...
متن کاملOptimal Non-Parametric Prediction Intervals for Order Statistics with Random Sample Size
In many experiments, such as biology and quality control problems, sample size cannot always be considered as a constant value. Therefore, the problem of predicting future data when the sample size is an integer-valued random variable can be an important issue. This paper describes the prediction problem of future order statistics based on upper and lower records. Two different cases for the ...
متن کاملMultifractality, stickiness, and recurrence-time statistics.
We identify the fine structure of resonance islands and the stickiness in chaos through recurrence time statistics (RTS), which is based on the concept of Poincaré recurrences. The projection of recurrence time statistics onto the phase space does give relevant information on the hierarchical and microstructures of the chaotic beach around the islands of a near-integrable system, the annular bi...
متن کاملDistinguishing dynamics using recurrence-time statistics.
The probability densities of the mean recurrence time, which is the average time needed for a system to recur to a previously visited neighborhood, are investigated in various dynamical regimes and are found to be in agreement with those of the finite-time Lyapunov exponents. The important advantages of the former ones are that they are easy to estimate and that comparable short time series are...
متن کاملRenormalization-group theory for finite-size scaling in extreme statistics.
We present a renormalization-group (RG) approach to explain universal features of extreme statistics applied here to independent identically distributed variables. The outlines of the theory have been described in a previous paper, the main result being that finite-size shape corrections to the limit distribution can be obtained from a linearization of the RG transformation near a fixed point, ...
